TimTech launches new flagship evergreen product and says goodbye to TE Toolbox from TimTech – product review and recommendation.

Let’s face it, we all love free stuff.

But no matter how much you like signing up for free programs, if you are serious about building an online business you must know that you can’t do it all for free.

If you don’t know that yet then you need to learn that lesson now.

Recently the guys at TimTech analyzed their own business model and came to a startling conclusion: they had been giving too much away for free.

This was bad for two main reasons:

  1. They were giving away things for nothing when they could have been charging for a valuable service
  2. Giving everything away for free encourages people to adopt the attitude that you can run your own online business for free (you can’t)

So when they took the opportunity to revamp TE Toolbox, a tracking program with free and paid membership levels, they took the bold move to completely move away from the free model.

I am going to pause for a moment and be honest with you here: I hated TE Toolbox with an absolute passion.

The website was ugly, it was overly complicated, I had no idea how to use it and navigating around the site was a nightmare.

As a result I used it once when I first signed up to CTP and then hardly ever looked at it since then.

So today I am happy to tell you that TE Toolbox is no more. It is gone, vanished, history and not before time either.

In its place is a new site called and I have been blown away with the difference between old and new – is one of the nicest looking websites I have seen in a long time and it is a real joy to navigate around its pages.

Because when TimTech came to redesign TE Toolbox they knew the number one complaint from users was that it was just too complicated for most people.

So their number one design objective was to keep it stupid simple and, boy, have they met that goal.

I was lucky enough to have been given advance access to the site and I fell in love with it the moment I saw it.

All the horrible clutter of TE Toolbox is gone and, in its place, is the most easy-to-use tracker I have ever seen.

But while the looks are simple and clean, it packs a mighty punch with a massive raft of tracking features which are just outstanding.

Out with the old:

Ugly: The dated and overcomplicated TE Toolbox is gone forever.

In with the new:

Sleek new design: looks modern, fresh and exciting

So why is it no longer free?

Speaking on the eve of today’s launch at TELive Jon Olson explained why it the free membership level has been withdrawn.

He said:

“ is not a business opportunity, it is a tool containing stuff you need for your business and that is why you have to pay for it.

“We want to end the mentality that so many people have in the online and traffic exchange industry which is that they are entitled to everything for free.

“If you are building your business there are costs you have to pay month in and month out and tracking your results is something which has a cost.” is the new flagship evergreen product from TimTech and they plan to promote it way outside of the narrow traffic exchange community.

It has a very simple pricing structure:

  • $9 a month or £90 a year for the marketers plan
  • $49 a month or $490 a year for the business plan

The lower price point is aimed for new marketers while the higher price plan is more suited to seasoned marketers.

In another unusual move which may surprise traffic exchange users you will find two things missing from when you sign up – there are no login offers or one time offers to be found anywhere and that is deliberate; there are two plans and two price points and nothing else.

TimTech has offered one major concession though for those who don’t want to start paying for a program they may decide is not for them.

There is a free 30 day trial offer for either package to you can see everything has to offer without risking a cent.

trck. me free for 30 days

The logic goes like this:

  • If you don’t like it or you don’t think it is right for you then you should not be left out-of-pocket finding out.
  • If you like it and want to use it then it is a business tool and has to be paid for.

TimTech CEO Justin Ledvina said:

“TE Toolbox mainly catered for free people and that was chasing the wrong market.

“We are not seeking the free people at at all. We want people who are serious about their business, are serious about investing in their business and are serious about sticking around for the long-term.

“We invest in our business and we tell our customers to invest in their businesses it is as simple as that. Before I learned that lesson I tried the free method but it just sucks, it doesn’t work.”

So what is the new look all about?

Well as a program owner or affiliate marketer you will almost certainly be promoting several splash pages at several different locations.

Now let’s say you don’t ever track anything. You just put the pages out there and hope for the results you want.

The major problem here is you have absolutely no way of telling what is working for you and what is not.

You don’t know if some pages are converting really well or if others bring in no results at all and you don’t even know which traffic sources are working and which are not. gives you all that information and, I never thought I would say this about a tracker, it is actually quite fun to use too.

The graphics are really neat and well-presented , creating new trackers is simple and your results are displayed cleanly and logically. tells users:

“The number one reason people don’t track their ads: They don’t know how to. The number two reason: It’s boring. We solve both those problems!”

And having used the site for a week or so now I can agree with both points.

This site could not be any simpler to use and it is fun too to see your results coming in and finding that you now have solid and reliable information to help you get the most out of your online efforts.

Main features of

Marketers plan:

  • Unlimited Trackers
  • Unlimited Hits Tracked
  • 30% Referral Commissions

  • Unlimited Hits Tracked
  • 30% Referral Commissions
  • Super Easy Control Panel
  • Email & Phone Support

Conclusion: is everything TE Toolbox should have been but wasn’t.

If you are serious about your online career and are not already tracking your results then you really ought to begin tracking right away.

This really is an awesome tracker and I really don’t think you will find anything simpler or as effective on the market today.

    Hi Patrick

This is a brilliant and very well written review, anyone would think that you were once paid to write content…

I will continue to be a loyal user of this most excellent service, if you can’t use the data generated into more than $9 profit you shouldn’t really be trying to be an online marketer.

I have been forced into signing for the $9 a month and I am far from happy about it.

Firstly and most importantly, there is the question of honesty. has been advertised as a pre-launch for more than a month with not the slightest hint that it was moving to a paid program. Long time users of the free service could easily have been sent an email in that time advising them of the new terms. We were not.

Secondly, it seems to be just a re-design of the website and what the graphics look like. I cannot see anything that could justify the price tag. Perhaps if it was half that price or there was still a free option for existing members, I would not feel so sore. A free trial is NOT the same thing.

Thirdly, I would have thought Patrick that you would have done your homework. In just a few minutes I found some good looking free tracking services that do exactly what is doing. To be able to access and transfer my links to a new service I had to sign up for Trck.Me – that feels a lot like being co-erced into using their paid service.

Jenny, you have 30 days to move elsewhere if that’s your wish. You haven’t dug into the site yet if you think it’s just a new template. I spend hours working on the site getting it to where it’s at now. If you don’t think it’s worth $9, we understand. That’s why there is the 30 day trial. To try it.

      Hi Jenny,
I did do my homework before writing this blog post so I am able to correct a number of errors in your comment.
      (i) You have not been “forced” into paying anybody anything – quite the opposite in fact.
The new service costs from $9-a-month and you have 30 days to try it out for free to see if it is for you. If you like it and you want to pay then you will be charged $9-a-month and if you don’t think it is worth it then you don’t ever have to pay a cent to TimTech. Just cancel and walk away.

(ii) It is totally without foundation to suggest that TimTech was anything other than honest in the way it handled the launch of this new product. The decision was taken to close TE Toolbox and replace it with an easier-to-use paid tracker instead. Very little information was released about how the new tracker would work until the launch. When it was launched TimTech sent emails out to all their members explaining the changes, including the price plan. Furthermore they took part in a live 12 hour Spreecast session where they fully explained the changes, took questions from customers and potential customers and spoke at length about why would be a paid only service. You could not get any more transparent than that.

(iii) is the replacement product for TE Toolbox but if you think this is just a simple program makeover then you are wrong. The site has been built from scratch and this was the only way to do it. Believe me when you start with something as ugly and as user unfriendly as TE Toolbox than that is the only sensible way to go.

(iv) Of course there are going to be free options to many paid products but if people are serious about their online business then why would you risk using an inferior free product when you could get a trusted and reliable one for just pennies a day? You are not buying a lottery ticket here and hoping to get lucky – you are paying for a vital service that you know will not let you down.

      (v) The claim that you felt like being “co-erced into using a paid service” is utterly without foundation. What actually happened is that TimTech allowed you to use a paid service for up to 30 days for free and that is an entirely different matter.

TimTech has been very clear on the matter of pricing. They do not want free members in this program. However you are quite right that for people who want to go the free route then there are other options out there for them too.

As you say Patrick – WHEN IT WAS LAUNCHED – Trck,me was advertised in the traffic exchanges for more than a month with nothing about the price plan in the ads.

The co-ercion occurs because when you first sign in as an ex-TE Toolbox offer, you CANNOT get to your trackers UNLESS you sign up for the month’s free trial, after which, of course they hope that you will forget about cancelling.

I just checked my emails for both ‘’ and ‘TE Toolbox’ and can find nothing about a specific ‘spreecast’ or anything else in the last four weeks, certainly nothing about a 12 hour marathon. They usually run online web conferences at times that are not friendly to UK members anyway, starting at midnight our time.

This is the only mention of anything to do with a ‘price plan’ sent out just 15 days ago. There is absolutely no possibility that I would have deleted any of the emails.

‘But in 15 days we’ll be changing our pricing structure and site into’

It doesn’t say that there will be no free option any more does it!

They also said this, the day before launch

‘Don’t worry, everything remains the same on your end, you won’t have to change anything but it’s time for a fresh start…’ So, we won’t have to change anything other than digging in our pockets.

      Hi Jenny,
I am afraid I still don’t understand why you are so angry.
As I understand it from your previous comment, as soon as you discovered that TimTech wanted you to pay to use their new online tool you decided you didn’t want to pay and moved all your links to a free tracker instead.

So what difference would it have made if they told you the new service would be a paid service earlier. Presumably you would have either:
      (i) decided you did not want to pay and move all your links to a free tracker instead.
(ii) wait to see what the new service was like and then move all your links to a free tracker instead.

Either way you are not out of pocket and were never in any danger of being out of pocket.

I honestly can’t understand what you are complaining about.

      Re: TE Live seminar…

Seeing that you removed yourself from the Skype room where a lot of news is about when we stream, I can completely understand how hard it was to find us online…

Not to mention the live stream started showing in Sweeva yesterday around 4 pm your time. Again, I completely understand how that time wouldn’t work with anyone running an online business. Imagine the nerve of TimTech…

I find it also fascinating that we have members that go to TE Live every night and never seem to complain about time zones…

But alas….It was a free to use program when it was TE Toolbox. It’s now a paid to use program. You have 30 days to give it a shot, try it out…If you don’t like it, there are plenty of other options.

But yup, you are right…We are taking free members and suggesting that they use our paid service now. Pretty simple really.

      • Jenny Fletcher UNITED KINGDOM November 11, 2012 at 12:22 pm #

I am amazed at the insulting tone from Mr Olson, surely that is no way to persuade anyone that your business is worth money to join or that they would get good customer service. You do yourself and your business NO favours by taking such an arrogant attitude.

I left the Skype room because every time I looked the chat was about Sitizens, a silly and childish GAME, not Sweeva, or anything else to do with online business.

I am taking advantage of the free trial to compare with a free tracking service and another one that is half the price monthly.

FYI at weekends during the day I am doing other things. I don’t spend every waking hour online. I have limited energy due to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and my thyroid condition and I am usually asleep before midnight. It certainly isn’t a lifestyle of choice.

          Hi Jenny,
I don’t think Jon Olson was being insulting and I am sure that, deep down, you don’t really think so either.

I would also say that your decision to take the free trial of and compare it with other paid and free trackers is exactly the correct way to proceed and is advice I would recommend to others.

Test out what is on the market, find something you like and use the service you are most comfortable with.

Hey Patrick, I’m a little bit like you on this one…

I never really liked TEToolBox but I also wasn’t tracking much to be honest, maybe just a few links and that was it.

I’m betting the service was super useful but I just couldn’t stand the GUI and on the other hand, looks AMAZING and here’s a really good example for anyone complaining about the service becoming a paid tool:

    - Google Analytics is FREE.
    - Clicky is a PAID service.

Both do exactly the same, they track stuff on websites.

Google does it insanely ugly and (in my opinion) poorly designed in usability terms.

Clicky does it beautiful. It strips away all the crap and shows you what matters and it does it in a very elegant way, stupid simple actually.

There are many other reasons why I choose to pay Clicky over using a free Google Analytics account but it’s way beyond the scope of this article.

What matters here is that I find Clicky to be better than GA and for that, I choose to pay instead of going the free route.

My business requires it and I’m not going to be messing with my business growth only to save a few dollars upfront.

This is obviously just my personal opinion and my two cents as well.

      Hi Sergio,
I think that TE Toolbox did have some super cool features but I never used any of them because it just looked too complicated.

I think Tim was the only person on the entire planet who really understood the thing.

Your example of Google Analytics and Clicky is spot on and your reasons for choosing one over the other is exactly the same choice which people are being asked to make with

      Great comment.

I fiddled around with TEToolbox off and on as a free member and I didn’t really think it was for me until I viewed the training videos in CTP.

Tim Linden provided a lot of insight and tips on using it, and it became so much clearer.
So clear that I decided to pay for it.
I do admit that “FREE” is nice, but there is nothing wrong with paying to build your business

Correct me if I am wrong here…..It seems to be a problem for the so called “tire kickers” to
have to pay [invest in their buiness] while they at the same time want others to pay them for
    their offers.

I want to commend you on your review. Actually I am very happy that the guys at TE Toolbox have totally revamped their site. It is very user-friendly and the price tag of $9 is a no-brainer in my humble opinion, especially if you are serious about your business. Yes you may be able to find a free service that may have some of the same features, but free services come and go and as the old saying goes “you get what you pay for”. These guys are reputable and the tracking that I now have my hands on helps me on where to focus my efforts. Not to mention they offer hits at a very reasonable price!
